Reception have had a fantastic half term. We have all enjoyed the Christmas activities and are getting into the Christmas spirit. We loved practicing and performing our Christmas concert. All the staff are so proud of the children and it has been lovely to hear back from parents have much they loved the concert.
Everyone from Reception would like to say great big THANK YOU to everyone who attended our Christmas shop. The children thoroughly enjoyed making all the products you bought. We have raised an amazing £140. The children will decide how to spend that money in the Spring Term.
We hope you have a Merry Christmas!
We have had a busy few weeks we have had in Reception. The children investigated their boats learning about floating and sinking and I think we were all surprised by how many animals their boats could hold. Thank you so much to all of the parents who spent the time making the boats with their child.
This term we have been learning a new story, Mr Gumpy’s Outing. The children have had fun changing the characters in the story to make their own version. They also created a puppet show on the iPads retelling their stories. They were fantastic!
We are starting to get into the Christmas spirit. The children have been making some important decisions on what we will be making for our Christmas store for parents. We can’t wait to share all of the childrens’ hard work with you on the 12th December. Parents can come into class, from the side entrance, at 2:45pm to purchase their child’s creations. If possible, please could parents bring coins to buy the items as we are learning to recognise and use coins.
We have been learning our Christmas concert songs and cannot wait to perform in front of the parents on the 12th December.
We have sent out letters confirming your child’s role in the concert. Please could all costumes be sent in, with your child’s name on it, by Monday 9th December. This gives us time to do a dress rehearsal.

WOW! What a fantastic first half term. We had had so much fun this term and cannot believe how fast the time has gone.
Reception thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the Waterfront Museum, where we met Mr Tevithick. He taught us a lot about transport in the past and how he invented the steam locomotive. We have been busy this term learning our Jolly Phonics sounds as well as our tricky words. We are so proud of how hard all the children have worked to learn them.
Half Term Challenge
Over the half term we would like to children to make a boat using recyclable materials. We will be investigating them, looking at floating and sinking as well as estimating how many small toy animals each boat can hold. Please see letter below for more information.
We have booked a trip to the cinema for November 21st as part of the IntoFilm Festival. Reception will be watching the Grinch at the Bridgend Odeon. Please see the 'Trip Information' form as well as the consent form which needs to be returned as soon as possible.
Week Beginning 30.09.19
We have had a very busy few weeks. We have been learning to read numbers 0-10 and how to match them up with numicon shapes. We have started exploring our topic about transport, by sharing how we travel to school as well as sorting transportation into air, water or land vehicles. In literacy we have been learning a story called Rosie’s Walk. It’s about Rosie a hen who went for a walk around the farm while a silly fox follows behind. We have been practising our retelling of Rosie’s Walk and we even drew a class map to help us remember. This week we get to change the story and write about Rosie going to different places.
We are very excited about our class trip next week to the museum.
Please send in any consent forms asap.

We have had a wonderful start to the Autumn term in Reception. We have been focusing on the Golden Rules and learning about our Supersaurs which help us be the best that we can be. All the children are settling in to Reception and have enjoyed exploring our indoor and outdoor areas.
We will be starting our topic work soon, exploring the theme of transport and travel and we cannot wait to hear from the children about any journeys they have enjoyed.
We have some exciting trips planned for this term already, which include a trip to the Waterfront Museum to learn more about transport in the past, as well as a cinema trip as part of the Into Film Festival. More information about both trips will be given closer to the dates.
Thank you for your continued support,
The Reception Team
